A wind advisory is in effect for the Kohala areas through 6 p.m. Friday.
Northeast winds of 20 mph to 30 mph with gusts over 50 mph are forecast for Kohala areas, including Waikoloa, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
The forecasters cautioned that winds this strong are capable of downing trees and causing power outages. Motorists are advised to drive with caution.
